The Hallertau region, known as the largest contiguous hop-growing area in the world, lies on the border between Upper Bavaria and Lower Bavaria. Traveling to the Hallertau doesn't require you to be an adventurer, but be prepared for delightful surprises when exploring this hilly landscape in the heart of Bavaria. In any season, the Holledau, as the locals lovingly call their home, is a paradise. In summer, the vast green hop gardens dominate the landscape, creating a picturesque scene. In winter, the sledging, cross-country skiing, and walking paths offer the perfect opportunity for pure outdoor relaxation.
Wander along trails with charming names like Michaels-Weg, Marienweg, or Nikolausweg, and experience first-class routes for nature enthusiasts regardless of the season.
The Hopfenland encompasses an area of over 17,000 hectares, adorned with hop gardens where towering columns, known as "hopfenstangen," rise up to seven meters high, leaving an unmistakable mark. As the aromatic climbing plants wind their way up the stretched wires and reveal their harvest-ready cones at the end of August, the region is adorned with impressive greenery. The scent of freshly harvested hops is enchanting, an olfactory delight.
